When AI Meets Design Systems: My Storybook Webinar Recap
I recently had the chance to join the Storybook team for a webinar on AI and design systems, two areas that have been shaping how digital products get built.
If you’ve ever run a live demo, you know the risks. I was bracing for glitches, but everything mostly worked (aside from the Visual Builder piece that’s still deep in development, which I warned everyone about ahead of time 😅). The bigger surprise was the amount of energy and engagement from the audience. The comments, questions, and feedback were overwhelming in the best way.
I have to thank Dominic Nguyen and the Storybook crew for inviting me. Storybook has had a massive impact on my career, so being part of this session was more than just a talk; it felt like giving back to a community that’s shaped me as a designer, developer, and leader.
Beyond Story UI itself, the bigger theme here is how quickly AI is moving and why design systems matter more than ever. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the pace of change, but design systems give us the context, structure, and shared language that AI needs in order to be useful. Whether it’s Story UI or the next tool around the corner, the important part is that we stay open to experimenting, learning together, and sharing what we find.
